This is my personal story about living deaf in a world that has rarely understood what it means to be deaf.
I wrote it from my heart, with honesty, feelings, and my own perspectives. Through my journeys from birth to the present, I share moments of frustration, determination, and discovery that reveal how being deaf has brought both challenges and personal transformation.
This book also explores how I found my inner soul and identity, built self-awareness, and grew spiritually. It touches on themes of self-love, authenticity, core beliefs, and personal growth.
My journeys have taught me who I am as a strong voice for accessibility and inclusion, and as an advocate for people with disabilities. These experiences continue to push me to discover more about life through curiosity.
I hope to encourage others to share their own stories and to spread awareness, greater understanding, compassion, and respect for a world where everyone, including the deaf community and people with disabilities, feels seen and valued.

“I was overwhelmed with Nick’s book, The Cage Was Never Mine to Stay In. A true, honest, thought provoking work of the struggles of a deaf individual living in a hearing world.
Throughout the book, Nick speaks of self-awareness and self-love, learned over many years. He delves into the spiritual journey he has been exploring and continues to explore.
I highly recommend this book to hearing, deaf and hard of hearing individuals, it is truly an inspirational read.”
